Exploring Medical Helpers Through Stories, Play, and Kindness Helping Hands and Brave Hearts is a gentle and supportive 24 session educational program designed for children ages 3 to 8 who use medical devices, receive medical support, or have loved ones who do. Through comforting stories, playful activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and caregiver guidance, children learn that “medical helpers” can include both healthcare tools and caring people who help support health, comfort, safety, communication, movement, breathing, emotions, and independence. Medical helpers explored throughout the program may include: • oxygen tubing • CPAP machines • wheelchairs • hearing aids • insulin pumps • nebulizers • hospital monitors • service dogs • adaptive tools • doctors, nurses, therapists, caregivers, and other healthcare helpers This inclusive program helps children: • reduce fear around medical equipment and healthcare experiences • build empathy and kindness • encourage confidence and emotional understanding • celebrate differences, disabilities, and diverse health experiences • feel safe, supported, and understood Each session features a different child character with diverse backgrounds, abilities, family situations, cultures, and medical experiences. Every session includes: • Ebook A for children using the medical helper or receiving medical support • Ebook B for children supporting or learning about someone using the medical helper • some sessions may include Ebook A, Ebook B, or both when appropriate for the topic • printable worksheet and coloring page • hands on activity • parent and caregiver guide Helping Hands and Brave Hearts creates a warm and emotionally safe space where children can explore healthcare topics through stories, creativity, play, empathy, and connection.
